Meet Mark, psychotherapist and EFT couples therapist

I am Mark Colclough, MA, a psychotherapist and EFT couples therapist specialising in expats and international couples. I work in English and Danish, from my practice in central Copenhagen and online.

Practising since 2004, I bring a bicultural perspective to work with individuals and couples across languages and cultural contexts. My work integrates depth-oriented psychotherapy with approaches such as integral psychotherapy, Gestalt therapy, Jungian psychoanalysis, and object relations theory. I also have specialist training in attachment theory, narcissism, and borderline personality disorder.

For support with life between cultures, explore expat psychotherapy or expat couples therapy. My practice is supported by ongoing training and supervision. To read more about my background, training, and approach, visit About me.

The importance of supervision

Good therapy begins with good supervision

I regularly meet with experienced senior psychotherapists in Denmark and abroad to reflect on my work, challenge my thinking, and continue developing my skills. This ongoing process supports the quality of my individual and couples therapy, helping me offer thoughtful, ethical, and effective care.

My focus is simple: excellence, integrity, and impact.

You are welcome to get in touch. We can clarify what’s the right therapy for you.

This is when you need a neurodiverse psychotherapy back-to-back work with me

You need more continuity than weekly therapy can provide, and your schedule or circumstances require concentrated work.

You need this service when overwhelm, shutdown, anxiety, exhaustion or repeated difficulty functioning has become impossible to dismiss. There is no perfect reason or time to begin, and you do not need a diagnosis. If your life is no longer working as you need it to, that is enough reason to act.

In more than 21 years of practice, I have learned that distress must be understood through the person’s actual experience, not forced into a standard explanation. I help you identify what is overloading you, what you are protecting and what must change first.

Is overwhelm affecting your ability to function?

You may be struggling to work, sleep, eat, answer messages or complete tasks that normally appear manageable. The final demand may look small while the accumulated load remains invisible.

I help you establish what requires immediate attention and reduce demands that can safely wait. If everyday functioning is collapsing, book an acute neurodiverse psychotherapy session with me.

Are you exhausted from masking and appearing capable?

You may be performing competence while using enormous energy to monitor speech, expression, movement and other people’s expectations. When that effort fails, you may feel ashamed rather than recognising exhaustion.

I help you identify where masking protects you and where it is costing too much. The goal is not to remove every adaptation, but to create a life that requires less self-erasure.

Does uncertainty make it impossible to settle or decide?

Unclear plans, unfinished tasks or ambiguous communication can keep your mind searching for an answer long after other people expect you to move on.

I help you identify the specific uncertainty, obtain what can be clarified and build a response to what cannot be known immediately. Your need for clarity deserves respect without allowing urgency to govern everything.

Do you shut down when demands and sensory input accumulate?

You may lose words, become numb or need complete withdrawal when noise, interaction and expectation exceed your capacity. Shutdown is not laziness or proof that you do not care.

I help you recognise earlier signs, reduce load and create a recovery plan. We also address the conditions that repeatedly push you beyond capacity.

Do your needs seem to change faster than you can explain them?

You may want contact and then find it unbearable, need structure and then feel trapped by it, or move between intense focus and complete inability to begin.

I help you slow these shifts down, identify what changed in the demand or environment and respond without turning inconsistency into a judgement about your character.

Are you questioning whether your current life can fit you?

You may have spent years adapting to work, relationships and expectations that function only while you ignore your own capacity. The urge to leave everything can become intense when the arrangement finally collapses.

I help you distinguish what needs immediate relief from what requires longer-term change. Decisions become clearer when they are not made at the peak of overload.

If the crisis is active now, request a call or book a session so that we can establish what kind of immediate support you need.

What a neurodiverse psychotherapy back-to-back work with me will help you do

Closely scheduled sessions let us stay with the work long enough to understand the pattern, make changes and review what happens next.

I help you understand how sensory load, executive strain, masking and emotional pressure interact, then turn that understanding into practical changes.

My role is active and structured. I will not teach you to tolerate an unsustainable life more efficiently. I help you identify what can be supported, what can be adapted and what must stop.

How will I help you understand what is actually happening?

Acute distress may involve sensory overload, burnout, anxiety, grief or a relationship crisis, and several may be operating together.

I separate the layers, identify what is urgent and give you my professional understanding. A useful explanation should create direction rather than another label.

Can you regulate without forcing yourself to appear calm?

Yes. Regulation means recognising what your system needs and responding before overload removes your choices. It does not mean suppressing distress for other people’s comfort.

I help you identify personal signs, reduce stimulation and choose specific ways to recover. The strategy must fit you rather than imitate how somebody else copes.

Can you communicate needs before they become emergencies?

Yes. We turn vague distress into clear information about capacity, timing, sensory conditions and what another person can do.

I help you ask directly without apologising for existing and without making other people responsible for anticipating every need.

Can you reduce demands without giving up your autonomy?

Yes. Support should remove unnecessary barriers while preserving choice and responsibility. It should not make you passive or organise your life around somebody else’s assumptions.

I help you decide what to delegate, simplify, postpone or approach differently. The aim is usable support, not dependency.

How will you rebuild trust in your own judgement?

Repeated misunderstanding can make you doubt whether your perceptions and limits are legitimate. You may rely on other people to decide whether you are tired enough, distressed enough or certain enough.

I help you test your experience against evidence and recognise patterns in capacity and recovery. Confidence grows through accurate self-knowledge and consistent action.

What will change look like outside therapy?

Change should appear in earlier recognition of overload, clearer communication, more realistic planning and less time spent recovering from preventable crises.

I help you translate insight into specific changes at work, home and in relationships. The goal is not to function like somebody else, but to build a life that works better for you.

How your neurodiverse psychotherapy back-to-back work with me is planned

Back-to-back does not mean relentless therapy. I plan the timing, breaks and intensity around what you can use productively.

We begin by deciding what the back-to-back work must address and how much concentrated time is appropriate. I will not prescribe a standard package before understanding the problem, your schedule and your emotional capacity.

The plan may include several sessions on one day, consecutive days, appointments distributed across one week or a weekend back-to-back format. Online, in-person and combined formats can be considered.

Several sessions can be held on the same day

Same-day sessions preserve momentum when travel, work or urgency makes weekly appointments impractical.

I build in deliberate breaks so you can eat, walk, rest and absorb what has emerged before continuing.

We can work on consecutive days

Consecutive-day sessions allow overnight reflection without losing the thread of the work.

I review your response each day and adjust the next session rather than following a rigid programme.

Sessions can be concentrated within one week

Several appointments across one week offer continuity while leaving time for practice and ordinary responsibilities.

This format works well when you need momentum without multiple sessions in a single day.

Weekend back-to-back therapy fit demanding schedules

A weekend back-to-back format protects the work from professional commitments, school runs and competing weekday calendars.

Weekend availability is planned individually, including session blocks, breaks and any preparation beforehand.

The pace must remain emotionally usable

More hours are not automatically better. Concentrated work must respect concentration, regulation and emotional capacity.

I monitor the quality of the work and slow down, pause or change the schedule when that is clinically responsible.

Integration and follow-up are part of the plan

Back-to-back work should connect to what happens after the final concentrated session.

We decide whether you need follow-up, structured individual psychotherapy, long-term couples therapy or no further appointments.

Frequently asked questions

What is a neurodiverse psychotherapy back-to-back work?

It is a concentrated series of closely scheduled sessions rather than conventional weekly therapy.

The schedule is designed around the work, your capacity and practical availability.

Can I book multiple sessions on the same day?

Yes. We can schedule more than one session in a day when that format is appropriate.

Restorative breaks are planned, so back-to-back does not mean continuous therapy without recovery.

Can sessions take place on consecutive days?

Yes. Consecutive days preserve momentum while allowing overnight reflection.

I review how you are responding and adjust the following day accordingly.

Can we arrange the back-to-back work within one week?

Yes. Several sessions can be distributed across a single week.

This offers continuity without requiring a full day or weekend.

Do you offer weekend back-to-back therapy?

Yes, subject to individual planning and availability.

Weekend back-to-back sessions suit busy professionals, parents, travelling clients and couples coordinating two schedules.

Can the back-to-back work be online or in person?

Yes. It may be online, in person or use a combination of both.

I recommend the format that best supports privacy, concentration and the work itself.

How many sessions will I need?

There is no responsible standard answer before I understand your situation and goal.

I recommend a schedule, explain why and review it as the back-to-back work progresses.

Will back-to-back sessions be emotionally overwhelming?

They should not be. Concentrated work must respect your limits and ability to integrate.

I plan breaks, monitor your response and change the pace when more therapy would no longer be useful.

What does a back-to-back therapy cost?

Fees depend on the number and type of sessions. Contact me to discuss the schedule.

Payment may be made by invoice and bank transfer or, where offered, by card through Stripe. The total amount payable is shown before you confirm payment. Therapy discounts and bundles may provide significant savings.

How do I arrange a back-to-back therapy with you?

Book a free discovery call or contact me directly.

Tell me the service, timing and format you are considering. I will recommend same-day, consecutive-day, within-a-week or weekend sessions.
