You can request a free discovery call, book a session with me, review my client policy or contact me directly.
The reviews shown here are shared by clients who have worked with me in therapy and chosen to reflect on their experience. They are collected via Google and displayed through an independent verification service, offering an open and transparent picture of how my work is experienced.
I am Mark Colclough, MA, a psychotherapist and EFT couples therapist specialising in expats and international couples. I work in English and Danish, from my practice in central Copenhagen and online.
Practising since 2004, I bring a bicultural perspective to work with individuals and couples across languages and cultural contexts. My work integrates depth-oriented psychotherapy with approaches such as integral psychotherapy, Gestalt therapy, Jungian psychoanalysis, and object relations theory. I also have specialist training in attachment theory, narcissism, and borderline personality disorder.
For support with life between cultures, explore expat psychotherapy or expat couples therapy. My practice is supported by ongoing training and supervision. To read more about my background, training, and approach, visit About me.
I regularly meet with experienced senior psychotherapists in Denmark and abroad to reflect on my work, challenge my thinking, and continue developing my skills. This ongoing process supports the quality of my individual and couples therapy, helping me offer thoughtful, ethical, and effective care.
My focus is simple: excellence, integrity, and impact.

Your usual ways of coping, adapting or appearing fine are taking more from you than they give back.
You need this service when overwhelm, shutdown, anxiety, exhaustion or repeated difficulty functioning has become impossible to dismiss. There is no perfect reason or time to begin, and you do not need a diagnosis. If your life is no longer working as you need it to, that is enough reason to act.
In more than 21 years of practice, I have learned that distress must be understood through the person’s actual experience, not forced into a standard explanation. I help you identify what is overloading you, what you are protecting and what must change first.
You may be struggling to work, sleep, eat, answer messages or complete tasks that normally appear manageable. The final demand may look small while the accumulated load remains invisible.
I help you establish what requires focused attention and reduce demands that can safely wait. If everyday functioning is collapsing, book AuDHD psychotherapy session with me.
You may be performing competence while using enormous energy to monitor speech, expression, movement and other people’s expectations. When that effort fails, you may feel ashamed rather than recognising exhaustion.
I help you identify where masking protects you and where it is costing too much. The goal is not to remove every adaptation, but to create a life that requires less self-erasure.
Unclear plans, unfinished tasks or ambiguous communication can keep your mind searching for an answer long after other people expect you to move on.
I help you identify the specific uncertainty, obtain what can be clarified and build a response to what cannot be known immediately. Your need for clarity deserves respect without allowing urgency to govern everything.
You may lose words, become numb or need complete withdrawal when noise, interaction and expectation exceed your capacity. Shutdown is not laziness or proof that you do not care.
I help you recognise earlier signs, reduce load and create a recovery plan. We also address the conditions that repeatedly push you beyond capacity.
You may want contact and then find it unbearable, need structure and then feel trapped by it, or move between intense focus and complete inability to begin.
I help you slow these shifts down, identify what changed in the demand or environment and respond without turning inconsistency into a judgement about your character.
You may have spent years adapting to work, relationships and expectations that function only while you ignore your own capacity. The urge to leave everything can become intense when the arrangement finally collapses.
I help you distinguish what needs focused relief from what requires longer-term change. Decisions become clearer when they are not made at the peak of overload.
If you want help understanding what is happening, request a call or book a psychotherapy session with me.

Understanding AuDHD matters, but therapy must also improve how you manage demands, communicate needs and organise your life.
I help you understand how sensory load, executive strain, masking and emotional pressure interact, then turn that understanding into practical changes.
My role is active and structured. I will not teach you to tolerate an unsustainable life more efficiently. I help you identify what can be supported, what can be adapted and what must stop.
Focused distress may involve sensory overload, burnout, anxiety, grief or a relationship difficulty, and several may be operating together.
I separate the layers, identify what is important and give you my professional understanding. A useful explanation should create direction rather than another label.
Yes. Regulation means recognising what your system needs and responding before overload removes your choices. It does not mean suppressing distress for other people’s comfort.
I help you identify personal signs, reduce stimulation and choose specific ways to recover. The strategy must fit you rather than imitate how somebody else copes.
Yes. We turn vague distress into clear information about capacity, timing, sensory conditions and what another person can do.
I help you ask directly without apologising for existing and without making other people responsible for anticipating every need.
Yes. Support should remove unnecessary barriers while preserving choice and responsibility. It should not make you passive or organise your life around somebody else’s assumptions.
I help you decide what to delegate, simplify, postpone or approach differently. The aim is usable support, not dependency.
Repeated misunderstanding can make you doubt whether your perceptions and limits are legitimate. You may rely on other people to decide whether you are tired enough, distressed enough or certain enough.
I help you test your experience against evidence and recognise patterns in capacity and recovery. Confidence grows through accurate self-knowledge and consistent action.
Change should appear in earlier recognition of overload, clearer communication, more realistic planning and less time spent recovering from preventable difficulties.
I help you translate insight into specific changes at work, home and in relationships. The goal is not to function like somebody else, but to build a life that works better for you.

You do not need a diagnosis, perfect words or an organised history. I begin with what is difficult in your life now.
I listen carefully, identify the focused difficulty and adapt pace, language and structure so the session remains usable. You may ask for clarification, processing time, movement or reduced sensory demand.
If you need sustained work, you can continue through structured individual psychotherapy with me. When a relationship requires joint attention, long-term couples therapy with me may be appropriate. For continuity and savings, consider a structured therapy bundle.
I ask what has happened, what feels most important and what makes the situation difficult to process or manage.
Before the session ends, I offer an initial understanding and concrete next steps. You should know what to reduce, address or investigate next.
I adjust pace, structure and language so that the session does not depend on rapid processing, sustained eye contact or an ability to answer broad questions immediately.
Therapy still requires participation and honesty, but unnecessary barriers should not consume the energy needed for the actual work.
Our work should become structured psychotherapy when the focused difficulty has settled but burnout, trauma, identity or recurring patterns still require sustained attention.
You can continue through long-term individual psychotherapy with me. Containing the emergency is not always the same as completing the deeper work.
Sessions may need enough frequency to maintain continuity when executive strain or rapidly changing capacity makes long gaps difficult.
I recommend the pace your situation requires and tell you when the work can safely become less frequent.
A structured plan provides predictability when the difficulty requires more than one session and knowing the schedule reduces uncertainty.
A structured therapy bundle can provide significant savings and continuity. I recommend one only when it serves a clear purpose.
The the focused work has done its job when you understand what happened, can recognise overload earlier and have a practical plan if it returns.
You may then stop, attend less frequently or continue with structured psychotherapy. I help you make that transition deliberately.
It is focused individual support when overwhelm, masking, sensory load, executive strain or another AuDHD-related experience has become a serious difficulty.
I work with your lived experience without requiring a diagnosis or treating difference as pathology.
Come when distress is affecting your ability to work, sleep, communicate or complete essential tasks.
You do not need to wait for complete burnout. If your usual coping no longer works, that is enough reason to begin.
No. You can discuss experiences that may relate to the combined effects of autism and ADHD without formal assessment.
I work with what you experience and need rather than requiring you to prove that you belong to a category.
Yes. We identify what is maintaining the overload, reduce focused demands and create conditions for recovery.
I will also be direct about when medical assessment, workplace change or other practical support should accompany psychotherapy.
Yes. We examine when masking protects privacy or access and when it produces exhaustion, shame or loss of identity.
The aim is not to remove every adaptation. It is to give you more choice about where, when and why you use it.
I begin with what has become unmanageable and adapt the session to your processing and sensory needs.
By the end, I aim to give you an initial understanding and clear next steps.
Yes. Online work can be effective when your environment provides enough privacy and manageable sensory conditions.
I help you decide whether online or in-person sessions are better for the present difficulty.
One session may restore direction. Burnout or an established pattern may require several sessions or structured psychotherapy.
I give you a clear recommendation and review progress openly.
