The reviews shown here are shared by clients who have worked with me in therapy and chosen to reflect on their experience. They are collected via Google and displayed through an independent verification service, offering an open and transparent picture of how my work is experienced.
I am Mark Colclough, MA, a psychotherapist and EFT couples therapist specialising in expats and international couples. I work in English and Danish, from my practice in central Copenhagen and online.
Practising since 2004, I bring a bicultural perspective to work with individuals and couples across languages and cultural contexts. My work integrates depth-oriented psychotherapy with approaches such as integral psychotherapy, Gestalt therapy, Jungian psychoanalysis, and object relations theory. I also have specialist training in attachment theory, narcissism, and borderline personality disorder.
For support with life between cultures, explore expat psychotherapy or expat couples therapy. My practice is supported by ongoing training and supervision. To read more about my background, training, and approach, visit About me.
I regularly meet with experienced senior psychotherapists in Denmark and abroad to reflect on my work, challenge my thinking, and continue developing my skills. This ongoing process supports the quality of my individual and couples therapy, helping me offer thoughtful, ethical, and effective care.
My focus is simple: excellence, integrity, and impact.

Something has become difficult to carry in the way you usually do, despite your best efforts.
You need psychotherapy when something feels wrong, your usual ways of coping are no longer enough, or your relationships and responsibilities are not working as you want. There is no perfect reason or right time to begin beyond recognising that something deserves your attention.
In more than 21 years of practice, I have learned that waiting rarely creates the clarity people hope for. I will help you identify what is happening, understand what you should take seriously and begin responding with greater choice.
You may be replaying conversations, anticipating disaster or trying to solve the same problem late into the night. The more urgently you search for certainty, the less able you feel to rest, concentrate or choose.
I will help you separate what is happening now from what fear is predicting. We will identify the decisions that belong to today and reduce the pressure to solve your entire future at once.
Fear, anger, grief or shame may arrive so quickly that you no longer trust what you will say or do. You may be holding everything in until you suddenly break down, withdraw or react in a way that frightens you.
I will help you understand what the emotion is responding to and contain it without dismissing it. The aim is not to make you numb. It is to restore enough choice that the feeling no longer controls the next moment.
Distress does not always look dramatic. You may feel blank, detached or unable to care about decisions that would normally matter, while everyday demands continue around you.
I take this loss of access to yourself seriously. I will help you reduce unnecessary pressure, understand what your system is protecting you from and begin reconnecting with what you need.
A breakup, betrayal, ultimatum or sudden conflict can make your entire life feel unstable. You may be pulled between reaching for the other person, protecting yourself and making decisions before you can think clearly.
I will help you establish what is known, what remains uncertain and what you should not decide under pressure. If the work needs both partners, we can consider whether couples therapy in Copenhagen is the right next step.
Bereavement, illness, relocation, redundancy or another abrupt change can remove the structure that helped you feel like yourself. You may be functioning outwardly while privately struggling to absorb what has happened.
I will help you make room for the reality of the loss without allowing every part of life to collapse around it. We will identify what needs support now and what can wait until you have more capacity.
You may be missing deadlines, dreading messages or using all your energy to appear capable. Rest no longer restores you, yet stopping feels impossible because too much depends on you.
I will help you assess the situation honestly and decide what must change. That may include present boundaries, difficult conversations or a structured plan that protects both your health and the responsibilities that genuinely matter.
If you want to understand what is happening and begin changing it, request a call or book a psychotherapy session with me.

Understanding yourself matters, but psychotherapy must also change how you live, relate and respond outside the therapy room.
I help you move from being caught inside a difficulty to seeing its emotional and relational structure. We identify what happened, what keeps the pattern active and what needs to change.
My approach is direct, collaborative and practical. I bring more than 21 years of clinical experience, while you bring the lived knowledge of your life. Together we turn insight into choices you can use.
A present difficulty rarely comes from one event alone. It often reflects a trigger landing on pressure, loss, conflict or an established pattern that has been building for longer than you realised.
I help you separate these layers and identify what is central. Clarity reduces confusion and gives us a precise foundation for meaningful work.
Relief is important, but calming down should not require you to deny a genuine problem. You need enough steadiness to face the situation accurately and respond in a way you can respect later.
I will help you regulate the present intensity while keeping the underlying issue in view. We work toward calm that supports action, not calm that asks you to tolerate what should change.
When you are distressed, possibilities can feel like facts and harsh judgments can sound convincing. You may assume the worst about your future or make yourself responsible for everything that has gone wrong.
I will question conclusions that are not supported and help you recognise what is actually yours to address. Clearer thinking makes it possible to act without being driven by panic, guilt or imagined certainty.
Urgency can push you toward abrupt choices or keep you frozen between options. Both reactions make sense, but neither should decide your future without careful examination.
I will help you identify the decision, its real deadline and the consequences of each option. Where possible, we create a smaller next step that protects your position while you gather the clarity you still need.
You may need to speak with a partner, family member, employer or doctor while your emotions are still close to the surface. Avoiding the conversation can increase the pressure, while entering it unprepared can make matters worse.
I will help you decide what you need to say, what you are asking for and which boundaries must be clear. We can prepare language that is honest without becoming attacking, apologetic or vague.
Therapy should produce changes you can recognise in daily life, not only insight during sessions. You should understand what you are practising, communicating or protecting differently and why.
If more structured work is useful, we can agree a clear plan. You can also consider therapy discounts and bundles when continuity and predictable scheduling would support you.

You do not need to arrive calm, organised or certain. I begin with what is most difficult in your life now.
In the first session, I listen for the central difficulty, the pressure surrounding it and what you want to understand or change. You can speak plainly and begin wherever the experience is clearest.
I will offer an initial professional view rather than leaving you alone with a collection of questions. Together we decide what deserves priority and what kind of therapeutic structure is likely to help.
I will ask what has been happening, what has changed and what repeatedly leaves you feeling stuck. This allows us to work with the centre of the difficulty rather than spending the session circling around it.
You do not need to tell your entire life story before we can begin useful work. We establish enough context to understand the present and then deepen the work where it matters.
I ask directly about sleep, functioning, relationships, support and the ways you currently manage pressure. These questions are not labels. They help me understand your capacity and what the work requires.
If another form of support or medical assessment would be more appropriate, I will say so clearly. Psychotherapy should be responsible, properly paced and suited to what you actually need.
I reflect the pattern I see and check it with you. We connect events, emotions, thoughts, bodily responses and the actions that keep the difficulty in motion.
Understanding is not the final goal, but it gives you a map. Once the pattern becomes visible, you can begin making choices instead of repeating reactions automatically.
Insight matters, but each session should also affect what happens afterwards. Together we decide what you will notice, communicate, practise or do differently before we meet again.
I do not give generic homework for the sake of activity. Any experiment must connect directly to the pattern we are working with and teach us something useful.
We regularly examine what has changed, what remains difficult and whether our way of working is producing meaningful movement. I do not assume that therapy is effective simply because it continues.
My professional view should be clear enough for you to evaluate. If the work needs a different pace, focus or method, I will discuss that with you directly.
Psychotherapy does not need to continue indefinitely. When you understand the pattern, respond differently and have more ownership of your life, the work may have done its job.
I will not encourage continued sessions without a clear therapeutic reason. We can reduce the frequency, pause or end deliberately when you no longer need the same level of support.
Psychotherapy with me is structured individual work focused on understanding emotions, patterns, relationships and the choices available to you. I work actively and will offer a professional view rather than remaining distant.
The purpose is not to diagnose you or keep you in therapy. It is to help you understand yourself accurately and create changes that matter in your daily life.
Begin when something feels wrong, your usual coping no longer works or the same emotional and relational patterns continue to limit you. You do not need to wait for a breakdown or perfectly formulated reason.
If the feeling that something needs attention keeps returning, take it seriously. A first session can establish whether psychotherapy is the right form of support and what should happen next.
I ask what brings you now, what feels most difficult and what you want to be different. You can begin with the part that is clearest even if the wider picture still feels confused.
By the end, I aim to give you an initial understanding of the pattern and a clear recommendation. You should know what I see, how I propose working and whether the approach feels useful.
No. You do not need a diagnosis, referral or perfectly organised explanation. You can come because something feels wrong, life has become unmanageable or you no longer trust your usual way of coping.
I work from what you are experiencing and what you need. If another professional assessment would be useful, I will explain why and help you understand where psychotherapy fits.
Yes. Individual psychotherapy can help you understand what happens in your relationships, communicate more clearly and make decisions from greater steadiness rather than fear or pressure.
If the central difficulty belongs between two partners, I may recommend couples therapy Copenhagen. I will help you distinguish individual work from work that requires both people.
Yes. What you tell me is confidential and handled according to my professional and legal obligations. I will explain the limited exceptions where safety or law requires action.
You can read the practical details in my client policy. I want you to understand the framework clearly before you disclose anything you are not ready to discuss.
Some people need a short, focused process. Others benefit from longer structured work when difficulties are established or several areas of life are connected.
I will give you a clear recommendation and review it openly. The number of sessions should follow the purpose of the work, not an assumption that therapy must continue indefinitely.
Yes. Online psychotherapy can work well when you have privacy and a stable connection. It is particularly useful when travel, relocation or work makes regular in-person sessions difficult.
In-person sessions are available in central Copenhagen. We can decide whether online, in-person or a combination best supports the depth and continuity you need.
The current fee is shown when you book a psychotherapy session with me. Payment may be made by invoice and bank transfer or, where offered, by card through Stripe. The total amount payable is shown before you confirm payment.
