Back-to-back expat EFT couples therapy Copenhagen

Find a clearer way through cultural pressure in your relationship

I will help you untangle the cycle and reach each other more clearly

How I work with expat couples in concentrated EFT sessions

In this short video, I explain how I help you understand the emotional cycle between you while keeping culture, language, relocation and international life in view.

At a glance

Back-to-back expat EFT couples therapy Copenhagen is for expat, international and mixed-nationality couples who need more continuity than weekly sessions can offer. It gives you concentrated EFT work when conflict, emotional distance, betrayal, cultural pressure or a major decision needs focused attention.

I help you slow the cycle between you, separate emotional patterns from cultural and practical pressures, and speak more clearly across language and background. The aim is to help you understand what is happening, repair what can be repaired and make sound decisions about what comes next.

An experienced psychotherapist offering psychotherapy and EFT couples therapy in Copenhagen

I am a certified psychotherapist (M.A.), the highest professional level recognised in both Denmark and England, and I work from my private practice in central Copenhagen as well as online.

For more than twenty years, I have worked with individuals, couples, and families across multiple countries and cultural contexts. My work integrates depth-oriented psychotherapy with a calm, grounded Danish presence.

Alongside my clinical practice, I have continued advanced training in couples therapy, supervision, and relational work. I am recently completed Master Class Further Training in Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT therapy) for couples.

The importance of supervision

Good therapy begins with good supervision

I regularly meet with experienced senior psychotherapists in Denmark and abroad to reflect on my work, challenge my thinking, and continue developing my skills. This ongoing process supports the quality of my individual, couples, and family therapy, helping me offer thoughtful, ethical, and effective care.

My focus is simple: excellence, integrity, and impact.

This is when you need back-to-back expat EFT couples therapy with me

When culture, distance and emotional urgency need more continuity than weekly sessions can offer.

You may love each other deeply and still feel that the same argument follows you across countries, homes, languages, and major life decisions. The visible disagreement may concern work, family, money, belonging, sex, or where to live. Underneath it, both of you may be fighting for safety, importance, trust, or reassurance in ways the other cannot recognise.

Back-to-back work creates enough continuity to slow this cycle down. I will help each of you understand what is happening emotionally, identify what international life adds to the pressure, and practise a different response before familiar protection takes over again.

Is the same emotional cycle crossing every cultural difference?

One of you may experience directness as honesty while the other experiences it as rejection. Silence may mean respect to one partner and abandonment to the other. These differences matter, but they do not explain the whole relationship.

I will help you see the emotional pattern operating through those differences. When the pattern becomes clear, culture stops being a weapon or a convenient explanation and becomes useful context for understanding each other accurately.

Are language differences making vulnerable conversations harder?

It is difficult to speak precisely about fear, shame, loneliness, or longing in a language that does not feel fully yours. Under pressure, one partner may become more fluent while the other loses words, and that imbalance can look like indifference or control.

We will slow the conversation enough for meaning to become clearer. I will help you listen for the emotion beneath imperfect wording and make room for both partners to express what matters without being judged for fluency or style.

Has relocation changed the balance between you?

A move can alter income, status, social support, identity, parenting roles, and dependence. The partner whose career or country shaped the move may feel responsible for everything, while the other feels invisible, trapped, or ashamed of needing more support.

I will help you name these changes directly and understand how they enter your cycle. The aim is not to assign blame for the move, but to restore dignity, influence, and emotional partnership in the life you are building.

Has trust been damaged while you are far from home?

Betrayal, secrecy, or repeated broken agreements can feel especially destabilising when family and familiar support are elsewhere. The hurt partner may feel there is nowhere safe to turn, while the other becomes defensive, ashamed, or desperate to move on.

I will help you face what happened without rushing forgiveness or avoiding accountability. We will assess whether trust can be rebuilt and identify the repeated actions, boundaries, and emotional honesty that repair would require.

Are travel and international schedules keeping you stuck?

Work trips, commuting, time zones, and periods apart can make regular weekly therapy unrealistic. Important conversations are postponed until you reunite, then arrive with so much pressure that they quickly become another rupture.

Back-to-back sessions let you protect a defined period for the relationship. We can work with greater continuity and create practical agreements that still hold when travel, distance, or demanding schedules return.

Do you need clarity before another international decision?

You may be facing a move, a visa deadline, a job offer, marriage, parenthood, separation, or a return to one partner’s home country. The practical decision is real, but it may also carry unspoken questions about whose life matters and whether the relationship is emotionally safe.

I will help you separate urgency from panic and evidence from hope. The goal is a decision you can understand and take responsibility for, whether you recommit, renegotiate the relationship, or decide to separate.

If you want to know whether this concentrated format fits your situation, book a free 30-minute discovery call and we will decide the next step together.

What back-to-back expat EFT couples therapy will help you do

Understand the cycle, reach each other more clearly and make decisions from emotional evidence.

Emotion Focused Couples Therapy does not ask you to win a better argument. It helps you recognise the cycle that takes over when closeness, trust, or belonging feels threatened. In concentrated sessions, we can return to that work with less loss of momentum.

I will remain active and direct throughout the process. I will help both partners slow down, speak more honestly, listen more accurately, and test whether a safer relationship can be created in practice.

Understand the cycle beneath the cultural argument

You will learn to recognise the moments when a practical or cultural disagreement becomes an emotional alarm. One partner may push for contact while the other protects themselves by withdrawing, explaining, controlling, or shutting down.

I will help you map this sequence without turning either person into the problem. Once both of you can see the cycle, you have a shared target and more choice about what happens next.

Reach the vulnerable emotion without losing yourself

Anger, criticism, numbness, and defensiveness often protect more vulnerable experiences. You may fear that you are not important, that you will be controlled, that you will fail your partner, or that closeness will cost you your identity.

I will help you speak from that deeper place while maintaining clear boundaries. Vulnerability here is not surrender. It is accurate emotional communication that allows your partner to respond to you rather than to your protection.

Translate meaning, not merely words

The same phrase can carry different meanings across languages and family cultures. Even when you share a language, assumptions about loyalty, privacy, affection, conflict, and responsibility can remain invisible until they collide.

We will make those meanings explicit. I will help you check what was intended, what was heard, and what each of you needs now, so interpretation becomes a conversation rather than a verdict.

Repair trust with clear accountability

Trust is not restored by reassurance alone. It grows when the partner who caused harm can understand its impact, remain present with difficult emotion, and behave reliably over time.

I will help you define what accountability and transparency mean in your circumstances. We will also protect the hurt partner from being forced into premature certainty while assessing whether repair is genuinely occurring.

Create boundaries across families, countries and obligations

International relationships often include competing expectations from extended family, work, migration systems, finances, and more than one possible home. Without explicit boundaries, the couple can become the place where every outside pressure is fought.

I will help you decide what belongs inside your partnership and what does not. You will practise making agreements that respect both histories while protecting the relationship you are choosing now.

Decide how to move forward with evidence

Some couples use this work to reconnect. Others need to discover whether enough trust, willingness, and compatibility remain. Both outcomes require honesty rather than pressure to preserve the relationship at any cost.

I will help you evaluate what changes during the work and what does not. You will leave with clearer evidence about the relationship, the responsibilities each partner must take, and the next step that fits what you have learned.

What happens when you begin back-to-back expat EFT couples therapy with me

A focused structure that protects depth, pacing and practical follow-through.

We begin with a free 30-minute discovery call. I will ask what brings you now, what you have already tried, where each partner is physically located, and whether a back-to-back format is clinically and practically appropriate.

If we agree to work together, I will propose a schedule and a clear focus. Back-to-back therapy is concentrated, but it is not rushed. The pacing, breaks, and follow-through are planned so that emotional depth remains useful rather than overwhelming.

I assess urgency, safety and international context

I will listen to both partners’ account of the relationship and identify the immediate pressure, the recurring emotional cycle, and the cultural or relocation factors surrounding it. I will also assess whether any issue requires a different form of support before couples work proceeds.

You do not need to arrive with a shared explanation. My first task is to understand the system you are caught in and establish conditions in which both partners can participate honestly.

We design the right back-to-back schedule

Sessions may be placed on the same day with a substantial break, on consecutive days, or across a planned weekend. The schedule depends on your goals, travel, availability, and capacity for sustained emotional work.

I will be clear about what the format can realistically achieve. If a different pace would serve you better, I will say so and help you choose an appropriate route.

I slow the cycle and keep both partners engaged

During sessions, I will interrupt familiar escalation, withdrawal, explanation, or blame when it prevents contact. I will help each partner identify what is happening internally and communicate it in a form the other can hear.

I will not treat one partner as the sole client or allow the more fluent speaker to define the relationship. Both experiences must become visible, and both partners must take responsibility for their part in the cycle.

Breaks and integration are part of the work

Closely scheduled sessions require thoughtful pauses. Breaks give your nervous system time to settle, allow important material to integrate, and reduce the risk of turning therapeutic insight into another argument outside the room.

I will give you clear guidance about contact, reflection, food, movement, and rest between sessions when relevant. The break has a purpose and is not simply empty waiting time.

Between-session actions test real change

Insight matters only when it changes what happens between you. We may agree on a short conversation structure, a boundary, a repair action, or a way to respond when the cycle begins again.

These actions give us evidence. When you return, we will examine what helped, what became difficult, and what the result reveals about the next stage of your work.

We connect concentrated work to a longer plan

At the end of the block, I will help you summarise what has changed, what remains fragile, and what each partner must continue doing. Some couples need follow-up sessions, while others need time to apply what they have learned.

If another route fits better, I will say so. We may move into couples therapy Copenhagen for longer-term relational work, psychotherapy Copenhagen when one partner needs focused individual support, or use therapy discounts and bundles when a planned course of sessions offers the right continuity and value.

Frequently asked questions

What makes this different from ordinary expat couples therapy?

The back-to-back format places multiple sessions close together, which reduces the loss of momentum that can occur between weekly appointments. It is useful when travel, distance, urgency, or a major decision makes a concentrated block more practical.

The work also uses Emotion Focused Couples Therapy to address the emotional cycle between you. International experience is treated as essential context, not as a stereotype or the automatic cause of every problem.

What does EFT mean in this service?

EFT means Emotion Focused Therapy. In couples work, it helps you identify the recurring cycle that appears when trust, closeness, importance, or belonging feels threatened.

I will help each partner reach and communicate the more vulnerable emotion beneath criticism, withdrawal, defensiveness, or control. The purpose is to create clearer contact and test whether new responses can become reliable.

Do we need to be in crisis to choose back-to-back sessions?

No. Some couples come because the relationship is at a breaking point, while others want focused help before a move, marriage, parenthood, or another major international decision.

The important question is whether concentrated work suits your goals and emotional capacity. I will assess that with you during the discovery call.

Can we have sessions on the same day or on consecutive days?

Yes. Depending on clinical fit and availability, sessions can be scheduled on the same day with a substantial break, on consecutive days, or across a planned weekend.

I will recommend a structure that allows depth without making the process needlessly overwhelming. More hours are not automatically better, and pacing remains part of the treatment.

Can we work online, in Copenhagen, or in a hybrid format?

The appropriate format depends on where you are located, the issues involved, and whether both partners can participate privately and safely. Some work can take place online, and in-person options may be available in Copenhagen.

We will clarify the practical setup before booking the block. A hybrid plan may be possible when it supports continuity and does not compromise the quality of the work.

Can we attend while living in different countries?

Potentially, yes. Different locations, time zones, and privacy conditions must be assessed before confirming the work.

Both partners need a stable connection, a private space, and enough protected time for the sessions and planned breaks. I will help you determine whether the arrangement is workable.

Will our cultures be blamed for our relationship problems?

No. Culture shapes meaning, expectations, communication, and belonging, but it does not remove personal responsibility or explain every emotional reaction.

I will help you distinguish cultural context from the cycle between you. Neither partner will be asked to represent an entire country, language, gender, or family tradition.

Can this help after betrayal or a serious breach of trust?

It can help you understand the impact of what happened, establish accountability, and assess whether repair is possible. Concentrated sessions can provide continuity when the usual weekly gap feels too long.

Repair cannot be guaranteed, and it cannot be forced. I will help you evaluate behaviour over time, clarify boundaries, and make decisions based on evidence rather than reassurance alone.

How many sessions will we need?

There is no responsible fixed answer before I understand your situation. The initial back-to-back block is designed around a defined focus, after which we assess what changed and what remains unresolved.

You may need follow-up couples sessions, individual support, or time to apply the work. I will discuss the options transparently rather than assuming that every couple needs the same programme.

How do we begin?

Book a free 30-minute discovery call through the booking page. Both partners should normally take part so I can hear what each of you wants help with and assess whether this format fits.

If we proceed, I will confirm the proposed schedule, fees, and practical arrangements before the first session. Payment is handled by invoice or bank transfer according to the site’s current client policy.
