Meet Mark, psychotherapist and EFT couples therapist

I am Mark Colclough, MA, a psychotherapist and EFT couples therapist specialising in expats and international couples. I work in English and Danish, from my practice in central Copenhagen and online.

Practising since 2004, I bring a bicultural perspective to work with individuals and couples across languages and cultural contexts. My work integrates depth-oriented psychotherapy with approaches such as integral psychotherapy, Gestalt therapy, Jungian psychoanalysis, and object relations theory. I also have specialist training in attachment theory, narcissism, and borderline personality disorder.

For support with life between cultures, explore expat psychotherapy or expat couples therapy. My practice is supported by ongoing training and supervision. To read more about my background, training, and approach, visit About me.

The importance of supervision

Good therapy begins with good supervision

I regularly meet with experienced senior psychotherapists in Denmark and abroad to reflect on my work, challenge my thinking, and continue developing my skills. This ongoing process supports the quality of my individual and couples therapy, helping me offer thoughtful, ethical, and effective care.

My focus is simple: excellence, integrity, and impact.

This is when you need a back-to-back EFT psychotherapy with me

You need more continuity than weekly therapy can provide, and your schedule or circumstances require concentrated work.

You need this service when fear, anger, shame, grief or numbness is shaping your thoughts, body, behaviour or relationships. There is no perfect time or approved reason to begin therapy. If something feels seriously wrong and your usual ways of coping no longer work, that is enough reason to act.

In more than 21 years of practice, I have learned that emotional distress becomes less frightening when we understand what it is doing and why. I will help you slow the experience down, identify what needs attention and decide what must change first.

Are your emotions taking over your everyday life?

You need support when fear, anger, grief or shame is affecting your sleep, concentration, work or ability to be present with other people. You may be functioning outwardly while using most of your energy to contain what is happening inside.

I help you identify which emotion is active, what triggered it and what it is asking you to notice. If distress is already governing your day, book a focused psychotherapy session with me.

Are you unable to understand why you feel this strongly?

Your reaction may feel too large for the immediate event, or you may understand the situation intellectually without understanding why your body and emotions respond so strongly.

I help you connect the present reaction with the need, injury or meaning underneath it. Understanding does not excuse harmful behaviour, but it gives you a realistic place from which to change it.

Are fear and uncertainty making you seek constant reassurance?

Uncertainty can make you monitor other people, replay conversations or seek answers that provide relief only briefly. The more urgently you try to feel safe, the harder it can become to trust your own judgement.

I help you reach the fear underneath the urgency, steady yourself and identify what reassurance can and cannot provide. You can ask for clarity without allowing fear to dictate every action.

Do you shut down when feelings become overwhelming?

You may become numb, highly practical, distant or unable to find words when emotional intensity exceeds what you can manage. Shutting down can protect you in the moment while leaving important needs unattended.

I help you approach the experience at a pace you can tolerate, recognise what the numbness protects and regain access to useful emotional information without becoming flooded.

Do your feelings change so quickly that you cannot trust them?

You may move rapidly between fear, anger, longing and numbness. One moment you want contact or action, and the next you want to disappear from the situation entirely.

I slow these shifts down with you and help you understand what activates each one. The goal is not to choose one feeling as the truth, but to develop enough stability to hear what each reaction is communicating.

Are you unable to decide what you should do next?

You may be trying to make an important decision while panic, shame, grief or exhaustion is shaping every option. Waiting may feel unbearable, but acting immediately may create consequences you do not want.

I help you separate emotional urgency from reliable information, clarify your values and identify what must be known before you decide. The decision remains yours, but you do not have to make it without structure.

If the crisis is active now, request a call or book a session so that we can establish what kind of immediate support you need.

What a back-to-back EFT psychotherapy with me will help you do

Closely scheduled sessions let us stay with the work long enough to understand the pattern, make changes and review what happens next.

I will help you identify your emotions accurately, understand the needs and meanings beneath them and transform responses that no longer serve your present life. Insight is valuable only when it gives you a different way of living.

My role is active and structured. I will stay close to your immediate experience, challenge avoidance and help you work with emotion rather than being governed by it or cutting yourself off from it.

How will I help you understand what you are actually feeling?

Emotional crises rarely consist of one clean feeling. Anger may protect hurt, numbness may protect fear, and shame may make a legitimate need feel unacceptable.

I help you distinguish the primary emotion from the reactions built around it. This brings clarity because you can respond to what is actually happening rather than fighting the loudest surface reaction.

Can you regulate emotion without suppressing it?

Yes. Regulation means remaining present enough to understand the emotion and choose how to respond. It does not mean forcing yourself to calm down or pretending the feeling is unreasonable.

I help you notice activation earlier, slow the process and stay connected to your judgement. You learn to tolerate useful emotion while preventing it from controlling every action.

Can you understand what your emotions need from you?

Emotions carry information about needs, losses, threats, boundaries and desires. The message can become difficult to hear when the emotion arrives through panic, self-criticism or overwhelming intensity.

I help you identify the underlying need and decide how it should be expressed or acted upon. Not every emotional impulse should be followed, but every important emotion deserves to be understood.

Can you stop shame from deciding who you are?

Shame can turn a painful event into a judgement about your entire identity. You may hide, become harsh with yourself or organise your life around preventing other people from seeing what you fear is wrong with you.

I help you separate responsibility from self-condemnation and approach the vulnerable experience beneath the shame. Change becomes more possible when you can remain in contact with yourself.

How will you make clearer decisions under pressure?

Clear decisions become possible when you separate panic, guilt and imagined consequences from the evidence in front of you. We identify which emotions contain useful information and which are repeating an older danger.

I will offer my professional view and challenge avoidance, but I will not make the decision for you. The final choice must remain connected to your values, needs and present reality.

What will emotional change look like outside therapy?

Emotional change should appear in how you speak, set boundaries, recover from distress and remain present in difficult situations. You should notice greater choice before an automatic reaction takes over.

I help you translate what happens in the session into specific actions in everyday life. The goal is not permanent calm. It is a stronger capacity to understand yourself and respond effectively.

How your back-to-back EFT psychotherapy with me is planned

Back-to-back does not mean relentless therapy. I plan the timing, breaks and intensity around what you can use productively.

We begin by deciding what the back-to-back work must address and how much concentrated time is appropriate. I will not prescribe a standard package before understanding the problem, your schedule and your emotional capacity.

The plan may include several sessions on one day, consecutive days, appointments distributed across one week or a weekend back-to-back format. Online, in-person and combined formats can be considered.

Several sessions can be held on the same day

Same-day sessions preserve momentum when travel, work or urgency makes weekly appointments impractical.

I build in deliberate breaks so you can eat, walk, rest and absorb what has emerged before continuing.

We can work on consecutive days

Consecutive-day sessions allow overnight reflection without losing the thread of the work.

I review your response each day and adjust the next session rather than following a rigid programme.

Sessions can be concentrated within one week

Several appointments across one week offer continuity while leaving time for practice and ordinary responsibilities.

This format works well when you need momentum without multiple sessions in a single day.

Weekend back-to-back therapy fit demanding schedules

A weekend back-to-back format protects the work from professional commitments, school runs and competing weekday calendars.

Weekend availability is planned individually, including session blocks, breaks and any preparation beforehand.

The pace must remain emotionally usable

More hours are not automatically better. Concentrated work must respect concentration, regulation and emotional capacity.

I monitor the quality of the work and slow down, pause or change the schedule when that is clinically responsible.

Integration and follow-up are part of the plan

Back-to-back work should connect to what happens after the final concentrated session.

We decide whether you need follow-up, structured individual psychotherapy, long-term couples therapy or no further appointments.

Frequently asked questions

What is a back-to-back EFT psychotherapy?

It is a concentrated series of closely scheduled sessions rather than conventional weekly therapy.

The schedule is designed around the work, your capacity and practical availability.

Can I book multiple sessions on the same day?

Yes. We can schedule more than one session in a day when that format is appropriate.

Restorative breaks are planned, so back-to-back does not mean continuous therapy without recovery.

Can sessions take place on consecutive days?

Yes. Consecutive days preserve momentum while allowing overnight reflection.

I review how you are responding and adjust the following day accordingly.

Can we arrange the back-to-back work within one week?

Yes. Several sessions can be distributed across a single week.

This offers continuity without requiring a full day or weekend.

Do you offer weekend back-to-back therapy?

Yes, subject to individual planning and availability.

Weekend back-to-back sessions suit busy professionals, parents, travelling clients and couples coordinating two schedules.

Can the back-to-back work be online or in person?

Yes. It may be online, in person or use a combination of both.

I recommend the format that best supports privacy, concentration and the work itself.

How many sessions will I need?

There is no responsible standard answer before I understand your situation and goal.

I recommend a schedule, explain why and review it as the back-to-back work progresses.

Will back-to-back sessions be emotionally overwhelming?

They should not be. Concentrated work must respect your limits and ability to integrate.

I plan breaks, monitor your response and change the pace when more therapy would no longer be useful.

What does a back-to-back therapy cost?

Fees depend on the number and type of sessions. Contact me to discuss the schedule.

Payment may be made by invoice and bank transfer or, where offered, by card through Stripe. The total amount payable is shown before you confirm payment. Therapy discounts and bundles may provide significant savings.

How do I arrange a back-to-back therapy with you?

Book a free discovery call or contact me directly.

Tell me the service, timing and format you are considering. I will recommend same-day, consecutive-day, within-a-week or weekend sessions.
