Neurodivergent neurodivergent expat couples therapy alone Copenhagen is individual relationship support when cultural differences, relocation or life abroad are affecting your partnership and your partner cannot or will not attend.
I was born and raised in England and Denmark and, as an adult, have moved to, lived in and worked in nine countries. I help you identify what belongs to culture, what belongs to the relationship and what is yours to change.
You can request a free discovery call, book a session with me, read about expat couples therapy together or contact me directly.
The reviews shown here are shared by clients who have worked with me in therapy and chosen to reflect on their experience. They are collected via Google and displayed through an independent verification service, offering an open and transparent picture of how my work is experienced.
I am a certified psychotherapist (M.A.), the highest professional level recognised in both Denmark and England, and I work from my private practice in central Copenhagen as well as online.
For more than twenty years, I have worked with individuals, couples, and families across multiple countries and cultural contexts. My work integrates depth-oriented psychotherapy with a calm, grounded Danish presence.
Alongside my clinical practice, I have continued advanced training in couples therapy, supervision, and relational work. I am recently completed Master Class Further Training in Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT therapy) for couples.
I regularly meet with experienced senior psychotherapists in Denmark and abroad to reflect on my work, challenge my thinking, and continue developing my skills. This ongoing process supports the quality of my individual, couples, and family therapy, helping me offer thoughtful, ethical, and effective care.
My focus is simple: excellence, integrity, and impact.

Your relationship across cultures has become too difficult to understand or carry alone, despite your efforts to adapt and keep communication working.
You need this service when you no longer know whether the central problem is cultural difference, relocation pressure or a relationship pattern that must change. There is no right time or officially acceptable reason to begin. Feeling alone inside the relationship, repeatedly misunderstood or unable to find a workable position is sufficient reason to seek help.
In more than 21 years of practice, I have learned that cultural explanations can illuminate a relationship, but they can also conceal avoidance, inequality or harm. I will help you identify what is actually happening, what belongs to you and what you should stop accommodating.
You need support when conflict, fear or uncertainty is affecting your sleep, concentration, work or ability to be present with other people. A relationship crisis does not have to look dramatic before it deserves professional attention.
I will help you establish what requires action now and what can wait. If the crisis is already governing your day, book an focused session with me rather than waiting for your partner to become ready.
Culture matters, but it cannot explain everything. If every painful interaction is dismissed as British reserve, Danish directness or simply being from different places, the relationship may never address what is actually hurting you.
I help you respect genuine cultural differences while identifying behaviour, expectations and relational injuries that require change. You will leave with language that is culturally informed without becoming vague or permissive.
Distance can feel intolerable when you are frightened that the relationship is slipping away. You may send repeated messages, demand certainty, monitor every change in tone or abandon your own boundaries because focused reassurance feels essential.
I will help you calm the alarm, recognise what reassurance can and cannot solve, and ask directly for what you need without escalating the crisis or losing yourself. Your need for closeness is not the problem. Fear must not be allowed to decide how you seek it.
Emotional intensity can feel intrusive, exhausting or impossible to manage. You may shut down, delay conversations, become highly factual or create distance because withdrawal seems like the only way to regain control.
I help you understand what the distance protects you from and how its impact differs from your intention. You will learn to state your limits clearly, remain present where possible and return to the conversation before space becomes another injury.
You may urgently want connection and then feel compelled to push it away when it arrives. The movement between reaching out, becoming angry, withdrawing and shutting down can happen so quickly that your own reactions become confusing.
I will help you slow these shifts, recognise what triggers them and build a steadier response. Compassion for what you are protecting does not remove responsibility for your impact. The goal is enough safety and clarity to choose what you do next.
Relocation can gradually make one partner more dependent and the other more powerful. You may have surrendered work, language, friendships or confidence and now struggle to know which compromises remain reasonable.
I help you rebuild a clear position, identify what you need and decide what must change. I will not tell you which country or relationship to choose, but I will challenge arrangements that require you to disappear.
If the crisis is active now, request a call or book a session so that we can establish what kind of focused support you need.

You can become clearer and more effective even when you cannot control your partner’s choices or make the relationship change by force.
our work should create practical movement, not simply give you another place to repeat the crisis. I help you understand your part without making you responsible for everything that has happened.
My professional view is that clarity must lead to action. We use what you learn to change how you steady yourself, communicate, set limits and decide what you will participate in next.
I will separate the focused event from the longer pattern around it. The real crisis may concern betrayal, emotional abandonment, repeated conflict, loss of trust or a decision that can no longer be postponed.
I bring structure by identifying what is urgent, what is maintaining the crisis and what can wait. I will give you my professional view rather than leaving you alone with competing explanations, while remaining clear about what cannot be known without your partner present.
Yes. You can learn to notice the point at which fear, anger or numbness begins to take over and use a response that keeps you connected to your judgement.
I will help you practise specific ways of slowing yourself before you send the message, continue the argument or disappear from the conversation. These are not techniques for tolerating anything indefinitely. They help you act from clarity instead of automatic protection.
You need language that is honest, specific and less likely to invite the familiar defence. We work on what you need to say, what outcome is realistic and when a conversation should pause.
I may be prescriptive about structure because timing and formulation matter during a crisis. You will leave with clearer words, a defined purpose and a plan for what to do if the discussion becomes destructive.
A boundary defines what you will do to protect your wellbeing and integrity. It is different from trying to force your partner to behave through punishment, silence or an ultimatum you cannot sustain.
I help you decide which limits are necessary, express them plainly and follow through consistently. A workable boundary should create information and safety, even when the other person dislikes it or refuses to cooperate.
You will identify the minimum conditions required for the relationship to continue, what evidence of change would look like and how long you are prepared to remain uncertain.
I bring clarity by testing hope and fear against actual behaviour. I will offer my professional view and challenge avoidance, but I will not choose for you. The final decision must be one you can understand and take responsibility for.
Your changes can alter the relationship because you stop supplying the same automatic response. Clearer communication, stronger boundaries and greater emotional steadiness can change what becomes possible between you.
I will not promise that individual work can make your partner change or save every relationship. It can help you see the relationship accurately, stop abandoning your own position and choose your next step with greater self-respect.

You do not need your partner’s agreement or a polished explanation before you arrive. I begin with what is happening now, what feels most important and what must become clearer.
I will listen carefully, ask direct questions and help you distinguish facts, interpretations, emotional reactions and important decisions. Your partner is not my client, and I will not diagnose or judge someone who is absent.
The work may remain individual, prepare you for a different conversation at home or lead towards joint therapy when that is safe and useful. I will be clear about which route I recommend and why.
I begin with what has happened, what feels important and what you fear may happen next. We establish whether focused safety, a decision, a boundary or a planned conversation needs priority.
Before the session ends, I will offer an initial understanding and concrete next steps. You should know what to do next and whether I recommend another focused session, structured individual work or a possible move into joint therapy.
Structured individual work is appropriate when the crisis reveals trauma, anxiety, identity questions, boundaries or longstanding protective patterns that require dedicated attention.
I can provide this through structured individual psychotherapy with me. The work focuses on your experience, responsibility and choices. It is never used to build a secret case against an absent partner.
Your partner should join when both of you are willing to examine the relationship itself and can participate with enough honesty, responsibility and safety for joint work to be useful.
If that becomes the right direction, long-term couples therapy with me supports relational development and healing. I will not pressure you to turn individual sessions into joint work before the purpose and readiness are clear.
our work may need to be closer together at first so that rapidly changing events and reactions do not repeatedly overwhelm the progress made in one session.
I will recommend the frequency I believe the situation requires. As clarity and stability improve, sessions can become less frequent. The schedule should serve the work rather than create dependency.
A planned series provides continuity when the crisis requires more than one conversation and you need the safety of knowing when we meet next.
Therapy discounts and bundles can provide significant savings and the security of a structured plan. I will recommend one only when it serves a clear purpose, and we will review progress rather than continuing automatically.
The focused phase has done its job when you can think, communicate and decide without the crisis repeatedly taking over. You should understand your own responses and know what you will do if the pattern returns.
You may then stop, continue with structured individual psychotherapy or begin joint couples therapy. I will help you make that transition deliberately rather than allowing therapy to continue without a purpose or endpoint.
Expat expat neurodivergent expat couples therapy alone Copenhagen is focused individual support for a relationship crisis when your partner cannot or will not attend. We focus on your experience, responses, boundaries and decisions.
I do not diagnose or judge the absent partner. I help you understand the relationship more accurately and act on what is genuinely within your control.
Come to me when the relationship crisis is affecting your ability to think, function or communicate, or when waiting for your partner is keeping you stuck.
You do not need certainty about staying or leaving. If something feels seriously wrong and your usual ways of coping are no longer working, that is enough reason to begin.
Yes. Your partner’s refusal does not prevent you from receiving professional support or changing your own position in the relationship.
I will help you decide what you can ask for, what you cannot control and which boundaries, conversations or decisions are now necessary.
I will not make the decision for you, but I will be direct about what I observe and what I believe you should take seriously.
We will establish the conditions, evidence and values that allow you to make a clear decision rather than remaining trapped in panic, guilt or pressure.
Yes. Individual focused work can help you stabilise after a disclosure, understand what you need and avoid making every decision in the first wave of shock.
I will help you identify focused boundaries, distinguish questions that need answers from questions that prolong the injury, and consider whether later joint work is safe and useful.
Yes. I can help when fear makes you pursue contact, overwhelm makes you withdraw, or you move rapidly between wanting closeness and pushing it away.
I will help you recognise what is happening before it takes over, steady your response and choose behaviour that reflects your present needs rather than an automatic reaction.
No. When you attend alone, I am working therapeutically with you and your experience of the relationship. Your partner is not my client and cannot be assessed in their absence.
If joint work later becomes appropriate, we will discuss its purpose and establish a clear couples therapy frame rather than quietly changing the nature of our existing work.
Some people need one focused session to regain direction. Others benefit from several closely spaced sessions or a transition into structured individual or couples work.
I will give you a clear recommendation and review it openly with you. Therapy should continue because it is useful, not because the arrangement has become automatic.
The current session fees and booking options are available when you book a session with me. Payment is made by invoice and bank transfer.
If several sessions are appropriate, a structured therapy bundle can provide significant savings and the security of a clear plan.
Book an individual focused session with me and briefly tell me what has happened and what feels most urgent.
You do not need your partner’s permission or a complete explanation before you begin. If the available times do not reflect the urgency of your situation, contact me directly.
