Back-to-back expat couples therapy alone Copenhagen

Concentrated couples therapy alone designed around international lives

I create a clear structure without wasting therapeutic time

How back-to-back expat therapy works with me

In this short video, I explain how I structure back-to-back couples therapy alone for people whose international lives require focused, carefully planned work.

At a glance

Back-to-back expat couples therapy alone Copenhagen is multiple sessions in one day, on consecutive days or within one concentrated week for people working on an international relationship without their partner attending.

I was born and raised in England and Denmark and, as an adult, have moved to, lived in and worked in nine countries. I understand both the cultural context and the practical demands of international lives.

An experienced psychotherapist offering psychotherapy and EFT couples therapy in Copenhagen

I am a certified psychotherapist (M.A.), the highest professional level recognised in both Denmark and England, and I work from my private practice in central Copenhagen as well as online.

For more than twenty years, I have worked with individuals, couples, and families across multiple countries and cultural contexts. My work integrates depth-oriented psychotherapy with a calm, grounded Danish presence.

Alongside my clinical practice, I have continued advanced training in couples therapy, supervision, and relational work. I am recently completed Master Class Further Training in Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT therapy) for couples.

The importance of supervision

Good therapy begins with good supervision

I regularly meet with experienced senior psychotherapists in Denmark and abroad to reflect on my work, challenge my thinking, and continue developing my skills. This ongoing process supports the quality of my individual, couples, and family therapy, helping me offer thoughtful, ethical, and effective care.

My focus is simple: excellence, integrity, and impact.

This is when you need back-to-back expat couples therapy alone with me

You need substantial therapeutic movement, but an ordinary weekly schedule does not fit your location, workload or current circumstances.

You need this service when your position, responses and decisions in the relationship requires more continuity than isolated appointments can provide. A demanding international schedule is not a reason to postpone work that has become necessary.

In more than 21 years of practice, I have learned that concentrated therapy must be carefully paced rather than simply made longer. I assess what can be worked with responsibly, define the purpose of each session and tell you when another format would serve you better.

Is the relationship crisis taking over your everyday life?

You need support when conflict, fear or uncertainty is affecting your sleep, concentration, work or ability to be present with other people. A relationship crisis does not have to look dramatic before it deserves professional attention.

I will help you establish what requires action now and what can wait. If the crisis is already governing your day, book an focused session with me rather than waiting for your partner to become ready.

Are repeated conversations leaving you more confused?

If every attempt to resolve the problem produces another argument, withdrawal or contradiction, more talking is not necessarily the answer. You need a different structure for understanding why the same conversation keeps failing.

I help you identify what you are trying to communicate, what is being defended against and where your own response can change. You will leave with a clearer way to approach the next conversation and a plan for what to do if it deteriorates.

Are you pursuing reassurance because the relationship feels unsafe?

Distance can feel intolerable when you are frightened that the relationship is slipping away. You may send repeated messages, demand certainty, monitor every change in tone or abandon your own boundaries because focused reassurance feels essential.

I will help you calm the alarm, recognise what reassurance can and cannot solve, and ask directly for what you need without escalating the crisis or losing yourself. Your need for closeness is not the problem. Fear must not be allowed to decide how you seek it.

Are you withdrawing because closeness feels overwhelming?

Emotional intensity can feel intrusive, exhausting or impossible to manage. You may shut down, delay conversations, become highly factual or create distance because withdrawal seems like the only way to regain control.

I help you understand what the distance protects you from and how its impact differs from your intention. You will learn to state your limits clearly, remain present where possible and return to the conversation before space becomes another injury.

Are you moving between pursuit, anger and shutdown?

You may urgently want connection and then feel compelled to push it away when it arrives. The movement between reaching out, becoming angry, withdrawing and shutting down can happen so quickly that your own reactions become confusing.

I will help you slow these shifts, recognise what triggers them and build a steadier response. Compassion for what you are protecting does not remove responsibility for your impact. The goal is enough safety and clarity to choose what you do next.

Are you unable to decide whether to stay, leave or ask for change?

You may be trying to make a permanent decision while fear, grief or exhaustion is shaping every option. That does not mean the decision should be avoided, but it does mean you need a process you can trust.

I help you clarify what has happened, what has already been tried and what would genuinely have to change. You can then decide whether to stay, leave or set conditions for continuing based on evidence and values rather than panic or pressure.

If the crisis is active now, request a call or book a session so that we can establish what kind of focused support you need.

What back-to-back expat couples therapy alone with me will help you do

Closely scheduled sessions let us stay with the work long enough to understand the pattern, make changes and review what happens next.

our work should create practical movement, not simply give you another place to repeat the crisis. I help you understand your part without making you responsible for everything that has happened.

My professional view is that clarity must lead to action. We use what you learn to change how you steady yourself, communicate, set limits and decide what you will participate in next.

How will I help you understand the real crisis?

I will separate the focused event from the longer pattern around it. The real crisis may concern betrayal, emotional abandonment, repeated conflict, loss of trust or a decision that can no longer be postponed.

I bring structure by identifying what is urgent, what is maintaining the crisis and what can wait. I will give you my professional view rather than leaving you alone with competing explanations, while remaining clear about what cannot be known without your partner present.

Can you stop reacting from panic or shutdown?

Yes. You can learn to notice the point at which fear, anger or numbness begins to take over and use a response that keeps you connected to your judgement.

I will help you practise specific ways of slowing yourself before you send the message, continue the argument or disappear from the conversation. These are not techniques for tolerating anything indefinitely. They help you act from clarity instead of automatic protection.

How will you communicate without repeating the same cycle?

You need language that is honest, specific and less likely to invite the familiar defence. We work on what you need to say, what outcome is realistic and when a conversation should pause.

I may be prescriptive about structure because timing and formulation matter during a crisis. You will leave with clearer words, a defined purpose and a plan for what to do if the discussion becomes destructive.

Can you set boundaries without using them as threats?

A boundary defines what you will do to protect your wellbeing and integrity. It is different from trying to force your partner to behave through punishment, silence or an ultimatum you cannot sustain.

I help you decide which limits are necessary, express them plainly and follow through consistently. A workable boundary should create information and safety, even when the other person dislikes it or refuses to cooperate.

How will you decide what happens next?

You will identify the minimum conditions required for the relationship to continue, what evidence of change would look like and how long you are prepared to remain uncertain.

I bring clarity by testing hope and fear against actual behaviour. I will offer my professional view and challenge avoidance, but I will not choose for you. The final decision must be one you can understand and take responsibility for.

Can individual work improve a relationship when your partner is absent?

Your changes can alter the relationship because you stop supplying the same automatic response. Clearer communication, stronger boundaries and greater emotional steadiness can change what becomes possible between you.

I will not promise that individual work can make your partner change or save every relationship. It can help you see the relationship accurately, stop abandoning your own position and choose your next step with greater self-respect.

What happens when you begin back-to-back expat couples therapy alone with me

Back-to-back does not mean relentless therapy. I plan the timing, breaks and intensity around what you can use productively.

We begin by deciding what the intensive must address and how much concentrated time is appropriate. I will not prescribe a standard package before understanding the problem, your schedule and your emotional capacity.

The plan may include several sessions on one day, consecutive days, appointments distributed across one week or a weekend intensive. Online, in-person and combined formats can be considered.

Several sessions can be held on the same day

Same-day sessions preserve momentum when travel, work or urgency makes weekly appointments impractical.

I build in deliberate breaks so you can eat, walk, rest and absorb what has emerged before continuing.

We can work on consecutive days

Consecutive-day sessions allow overnight reflection without losing the thread of the work.

I review your response each day and adjust the next session rather than following a rigid programme.

Sessions can be concentrated within one week

Several appointments across one week offer continuity while leaving time for practice and ordinary responsibilities.

This format works well when you need momentum without multiple sessions in a single day.

Weekend therapy intensives fit demanding schedules

A weekend intensive protects the work from professional commitments, school runs and competing weekday calendars.

Weekend availability is planned individually, including session blocks, breaks and any preparation beforehand.

The pace must remain emotionally usable

More hours are not automatically better. Concentrated work must respect concentration, regulation and emotional capacity.

I monitor the quality of the work and slow down, pause or change the schedule when that is clinically responsible.

Integration and follow-up are part of the plan

An intensive should connect to what happens after the final concentrated session.

We decide whether you need follow-up, structured individual psychotherapy, long-term couples therapy or no further appointments.

Frequently asked questions

What is a couples therapy intensive for one partner?

It is a concentrated series of closely scheduled sessions rather than conventional weekly therapy.

The schedule is designed around the work, your capacity and practical availability.

Can I book multiple sessions on the same day?

Yes. We can schedule more than one session in a day when that format is appropriate.

Restorative breaks are planned, so back-to-back does not mean continuous therapy without recovery.

Can sessions take place on consecutive days?

Yes. Consecutive days preserve momentum while allowing overnight reflection.

I review how you are responding and adjust the following day accordingly.

Can we arrange the intensive within one week?

Yes. Several sessions can be distributed across a single week.

This offers continuity without requiring a full day or weekend.

Do you offer weekend therapy intensives?

Yes, subject to individual planning and availability.

Weekend intensives suit busy professionals, parents, travelling clients and couples coordinating two schedules.

Can the intensive be online or in person?

Yes. It may be online, in person or use a combination of both.

I recommend the format that best supports privacy, concentration and the work itself.

How many sessions will I need?

There is no responsible standard answer before I understand your situation and goal.

I recommend a schedule, explain why and review it as the intensive progresses.

Will back-to-back sessions be emotionally overwhelming?

They should not be. Concentrated work must respect your limits and ability to integrate.

I plan breaks, monitor your response and change the pace when more therapy would no longer be useful.

What does a therapy intensive cost?

Fees depend on the number and type of sessions. Contact me to discuss the schedule.

Payment is by invoice and bank transfer. Therapy discounts and bundles may provide significant savings.

How do I arrange a therapy intensive with you?

Book a free discovery call or contact me directly.

Tell me the service, timing and format you are considering. I will recommend same-day, consecutive-day, within-a-week or weekend sessions.
