What is intensive neurodiverse couples therapy Copenhagen?
This format is designed for couples who want change now. You may have tried regular therapy but still feel stuck in misunderstanding and distance.

An experienced psychotherapist offering psychotherapy and EFT couples therapy in Copenhagen
I am a certified psychotherapist (M.A.), the highest professional level recognised in both Denmark and England, and I work from my private practice in central Copenhagen as well as online.
For more than twenty years, I have worked with individuals, couples, and families across multiple countries and cultural contexts. My work integrates depth-oriented psychotherapy with a calm, grounded Danish presence.
Alongside my clinical practice, I have continued advanced training in couples therapy, supervision, and relational work. I am recently completed Master Class Further Training in Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT therapy) for couples.
The importance of supervision
Good therapy begins with good supervision
I regularly meet with experienced senior psychotherapists in Denmark and abroad to reflect on my work, challenge my thinking, and continue developing my skills. This ongoing process supports the quality of my individual, couples, and family therapy, helping me offer thoughtful, ethical, and effective care.
My focus is simple: excellence, integrity, and impact.

What you need to know about my services
What happens during intensive neurodiverse couples therapy sessions?
Each session moves between reflection, dialogue, and practical tools. You learn how to calm your nervous systems and communicate with care. I guide you through structured conversations that bring clarity instead of blame.
By the end, you will understand each other’s inner worlds and leave with concrete ways to stay connected and grounded at home.
What happens during intensive sessions
Each intensive program includes longer sessions across one or more days. We have time to explore your core issues without interruption — often a mix of distance, conflict, or unspoken hurt.
We focus on how neurodiversity shapes emotion, language, and expectation between you. You’ll practise new forms of communication that feel more natural for both partners.
Between sessions, you’ll apply what we explore in daily life, then bring your experiences back into the next meeting. This rhythm makes change visible and lasting.
My approach as your couples therapist
Intensive work helps couples move beyond surface repair into deeper emotional connection. My approach combines Emotion-focused couples therapy with systemic and process-oriented understanding.
In neurodiverse relationships, both partners often experience miscommunication not as failure, but as difference. I help you recognise these differences and find ways to meet in empathy instead of frustration.
You’ll learn to listen beyond words and respond to the emotional meaning behind your partner’s signals. This is how couples rediscover trust and closeness — by understanding each other’s inner logic and rhythm.
Booking and payment for your intensive program
You can book your session online or ask me to call you directly. Acute appointments are often available within a day or two.
You can pay by invoice, bank transfer, card, cash, or MobilePay. All sessions are prepaid. Psychotherapy is exempt from VAT, and prices are shown without VAT on my prices page.
If you cancel more than seven days before a session, there is no fee. Cancellations within seven days or no-shows are charged in full. This applies to both in-person and online sessions.
Voucher or clip cards can be refunded at any time. Any sessions already used are recalculated at the full listed price at the time of return. The remaining unused sessions are then refunded, minus a 20 per cent administration fee. You can always request a call or contact me if you need help arranging anything quickly.
How your intensive process takes shape
Each couple’s program is different. We start with an assessment of what’s happening between you and what you hope to rebuild. Together we decide how much time to dedicate and what format will suit your emotional capacity.
The sequence usually includes dialogue practice, emotional exploration, and guided reflection. By the final session, you’ll have a clearer understanding of your patterns and new tools to stay connected.
This kind of work is demanding, but it often marks the turning point where relationships begin to heal.

The anatomy of an intensive neurodiverse couple process
A relationship between neurotypes can hold deep love and deep misunderstanding. When ordinary sessions only scratch the surface, an intensive format allows space to untangle the patterns that keep you apart.
When translation fails
You may speak different emotional languages. I help you slow down and learn each other’s cues so communication feels possible again.
When trust feels unstable
Repeated misattunement erodes safety. We rebuild it through consistency, clarity, and new emotional agreements.
When emotions overwhelm
One of you may shut down while the other pursues. We balance these rhythms and create calm connection instead of conflict.

How Intensive neurodiverse couples therapy supports you in crisis
Below, I describe how I offer intensive neurodiverse couples therapy at Møntergade and what you can expect from the process. My aim is to give you clarity about the work, so you feel steady, informed, and supported before taking the next step.
Deep work in a steady, held space
My approach as a therapist for neurodiverse couples
In neurodiverse relationships, differences in perception, processing, and communication can either create distance or deepen intimacy. Intensive couples therapy offers the time and structure to transform those differences into understanding.
We meet for extended sessions that allow emotions to settle and insights to take root. My focus is to help both partners feel safe, seen, and able to communicate in ways that honour your distinct neurotypes.

If you want to repair communication and rediscover closeness, reach out. Together we design an intensive that fits your time and energy while helping you move from stress to connection.
How couples therapy works in intensive settings
We slow interaction enough for genuine contact to appear. Through dialogue, awareness, and guided reflection, you begin to understand not just what happens between you, but why.
Bringing nuance to emotions
We explore how emotion shows itself in each of you — through intensity, quiet, or analysis — and how these differences can complement rather than collide.
My role as your therapist
I hold both of you with empathy and neutrality, offering honest feedback and structure that keep communication safe.
How I work with couples in depth

Thoughts about intensive neurodiverse couples therapy
In moments of acute strain within a neurodiverse relationship, it helps to pause and understand what kind of support is truly needed. Here I explain how I approach intensive couples therapy, why focused sessions can be stabilising, and how clarity and structure come before meaningful change. The aim is to restore direction so your next steps are taken with steadiness rather than urgency.
When your neurodiverse relationship needs deep, focused support
Neurodiverse couples often feel the emotional pressure more intensely than neurotypical couples. Communication breaks down faster. Misunderstandings grow quickly. Sensory overload, shutdowns, emotional intensity, or pacing differences make conflict harder to navigate.
You may feel disconnected, misunderstood, or worn down by repeated cycles. You may try to explain yourself but feel unheard. You may want closeness but fear escalation. You may feel alone with the responsibility to keep the relationship steady.
Intensive neurodiverse couples therapy gives you both several hours of focused, structured work across one or two days. This format helps you slow down the crisis, understand the emotional patterns between you, and rebuild connection without waiting weeks for progress.
How intensives help you reconnect safely
Neurodiverse couples need a therapeutic pace that respects sensory thresholds, processing speeds, and emotional capacity. In an intensive, you have time to go deeper without rushing or feeling pressured.
Together we work on:
Slowing the emotional and sensory pace
This reduces overwhelm and helps both partners stay grounded.
Understanding the neurodiverse couple dynamic
You learn how sensory overload, emotional pressure, and different thinking styles create conflict.
Mapping your shared cycle
You see the structure of your misunderstandings, not just the symptoms.
Improving communication
You learn how to speak and listen in ways that fit your neurotypes.
Rebuilding emotional safety
You reconnect through simple steps that reduce tension.
This gives you a stronger foundation for closeness and understanding.
How attachment patterns influence your neurodiverse relationship
Attachment and neurodiversity interact strongly. Intensives help you see these patterns clearly.
When anxiety drives urgency
One partner may seek closeness fast to feel safe.
When avoidance protects from overload
The other partner may withdraw to prevent emotional collapse.
When mixed emotional signals cause confusion
A partner may want closeness but fear the intensity that follows.
When secure attachment becomes strained
Even stable relationships lose balance when the stress is too high.
Understanding these reactions helps both partners feel seen and valued.
What you can change together
You can change:
- How you communicate
- How you slow conflict
- How you repair after misunderstandings
- How you support each other’s nervous systems
- How you create emotional safety
- How you respond to overload
- How you reconnect after distance
These shifts strengthen the relationship fast.
Why neurodiverse couples benefit from intensives
Weekly sessions often feel too slow for neurodiverse couples. The emotional system is sensitive to overload, and problems can escalate before the next appointment. Intensives give you time to settle, reflect, and reconnect in a safe, steady rhythm.
You may choose this format because:
- Shutdowns or overloads happen fast
- Conflict escalates before either of you can slow it
- One or both partners mask until collapse
- Emotional conversations feel too intense in short sessions
- Miscommunication causes recurring tension
- You want a clear, structured path forward
- Your relationship feels stuck or fragile
An intensive gives you the clarity, grounding, and emotional space needed to repair the connection.
What a typical intensive looks like
An intensive usually takes place across one or two consecutive days. This creates stability and emotional momentum.
Day one
We explore the relationship cycle, identify emotional patterns, and slow everything down. You begin to understand what triggers shutdowns, overload, anxiety, or withdrawal.
Day two
We deepen the work. You learn tools that protect the connection, reduce tension, and support clear communication. We repair misunderstandings and build a plan for the days ahead.
Every intensive is adjusted to your sensory and emotional needs.
Understanding the neurodiverse couple cycle
The dynamic in neurodiverse couples often follows a predictable pattern once you know where to look.
Sensory overload
Noise, intensity, or emotional pressure can trigger overwhelm.
Shutdown
A partner may withdraw, appear calm, or become quiet to protect their nervous system.
Emotional intensity
The other partner may escalate, defend, or pursue connection quickly.
Mask collapse
One or both partners may feel unable to cope after holding everything together for too long.
Misinterpretation
Both partners may assume the other’s reaction is rejection or blame.
Understanding this cycle removes a large amount of guilt, shame, and confusion.
How you reduce overload and misunderstanding
You learn practical steps that reduce stress and support connection.
Predictable communication
Predictability calms neurodiverse systems.
Slowing emotional pace
This keeps both partners grounded.
Reducing sensory pressure
You learn how to adjust the environment or timing.
Clear and simple language
You avoid confusion and reduce intensity.
Emotional regulation tools
Each partner learns how to stay present even during difficult topics.
These steps make daily life calmer and more connected.
Here, therapy creates a structured space for truth, repair, and new patterns of respect and leadership at home. In intensive psychotherapy, each of these themes becomes an opening into deeper self-mastery.
The goal is not to diagnose or soften you. It is to help you meet yourself completely — and lead from a place of inner clarity that no success or failure can shake.

Frequently asked questions
How fast can I book an intensive start date?
You can usually begin within a few days. Mixed neurotype couples often reach out when communication feels impossible or emotional distance has grown too wide. The intensive format gives us continuity so we can stabilise both nervous systems and work deeply without long breaks that interrupt progress.
What happens in the first intensive session?
The first session lays the emotional foundation for the work. We explore what has been happening, how each nervous system responds under stress and what each of you needs to feel safe enough to go deeper. You leave with clarity, direction and a shared understanding of the work ahead.
Do you offer a free thirty minute call before we commit?
Yes. Mixed neurotype couples often need reassurance that the pace, structure and approach will feel safe. The call gives you space to ask questions, describe your situation and sense whether the intensive process fits your emotional capacity. It helps you choose without pressure.
Do you offer any discounts or voucher cards?
Yes. After your first paid session you receive a ten percent digital voucher that you can use toward the next booking. Many couples appreciate this when stepping into deeper work that requires time, focus and emotional energy.
Do you offer online intensive sessions if attending in person is difficult?
Yes. Online intensives work very well for neurodiverse couples, especially when travel, sensory environments or logistics feel overwhelming. The screen gives you steady access to support so you can stay in the emotional process without unnecessary stress.
Are sessions confidential with both of us present?
Yes. Everything shared stays private. Mixed neurotype dynamics can involve shame, confusion, masking and emotional overload. Confidentiality creates the safety you need to explore painful or complex moments without fear of judgement or exposure.
How does intensive neurodiverse couples therapy differ from weekly sessions?
Intensives give you depth, continuity and emotional momentum. There is no long gap between sessions, so we stay close to the pattern as it unfolds. This helps you understand your reactions, slow escalation and build new ways of connecting much faster than weekly therapy allows.
Can I book evenings or weekends?
Yes. Many couples choose intensives for the flexibility. I offer extended hours so you can work deeply without being limited by work, energy levels or family commitments. This helps you stay connected to the emotional momentum of the process.
Can we speak with you in English if we are an international couple?
Yes. Many international couples seek neurodiverse focused therapy in clear, simple English. Cultural differences often intensify emotional patterns. We slow the pace and build a shared language so both partners feel understood and emotionally grounded.
What if one of us feels ashamed or unsure about going deep?
This is very common. Neurodiverse relationships often include moments of shutdown, guilt or emotional fear. We move slowly and safely. You are not pushed. Depth comes when each person feels steady, not cornered. The intensive format lets us build that safety together.

More frequently asked questions
What if we have tried couples therapy before and it did not help?
Can intensives help when one partner shuts down or goes silent?
Yes. Shutdown is usually overload, not rejection. We explore what triggers it, how each partner reacts and what steps create enough safety for communication to return. When pressure reduces, the distance softens and repair becomes possible again.
Can intensives help if misunderstandings escalate quickly?
Yes. Misunderstandings often escalate faster in mixed neurotype couples due to different processing speeds and cues. Intensives give us time to unpack the moment clearly, slow both nervous systems and build tools that help you avoid escalation in the future.
What if emotional exhaustion has built up over time?
Emotional fatigue is common in neurodiverse relationships, especially when one partner has carried most of the relational effort. We explore how that burden formed and how to change the dynamic without blame. You learn how to protect your energy while staying connected.
What if we love each other but keep getting lost in the same cycle?
This is one of the most common reasons couples choose intensives. Love is present, but the pattern overwhelms your ability to reach each other. We slow the cycle, understand its structure and build new ways of responding so the relationship can breathe again.
How do we know if we should move into ongoing neurodiverse couples therapy later?
You will feel it when you have enough stability to continue the work with weekly support. I help you sense the right moment so ongoing therapy becomes productive rather than overwhelming. The timing is guided by readiness, not pressure.
How do we know when it is time to end therapy?
You know it is time when communication feels steadier, conflict softens and you can navigate difficult moments without losing each other. Ending therapy is a sign of emotional strength. You leave when you feel confident continuing the work together without regular support.
Can we book more than one intensive cycle if needed?
Yes. Some couples complete one round and choose to go deeper once the first layer of work settles. Intensives can be spaced or consecutive depending on your emotional capacity and the depth of what you want to explore. You always lead the pace.
How will we know if the intensive work is helping?
You will notice more emotional safety, less escalation and clearer communication. Patterns that once felt chaotic begin to make sense. Both partners feel more understood and less alone. Even early shifts often signal that the system is becoming more stable and connected.
